Bill Messerly

William (Bill) Messerly

Chairman

Bill Messerly began his professional career by working in the public business sector for several years before his natural entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a homebuilder in 1976. After more than a decade of building homes in the greater Atlanta area, Bill had a vision of acquiring a small company to grow and develop, and he purchased Courier Express in July 1990.

Bill’s son Jim also joined the company in 1990, followed by Jack in 1992. Under Bill’s leadership, the team took the company from the local to the regional level. As Courier Express rapidly expanded, Bill mentored his sons to become the next generation of leadership, bringing their own vision and fresh ideas to the company.

Today, Bill serves as chairman of Courier Express. While he has stepped away from day-to-day operations, he still has a very active role in the company’s major interests.

Bill earned a B.A. in history from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He is married and has six grandchildren. When he’s not traveling or spending time with his family, you are likely to find him reading, surf fishing or following population trends as a hobby.

 

Jack Messerly

CEO

Jack Messerly serves as chief executive officer of Courier Express. He joined the company in 1992 after working for several years as a certified public accountant. His primary focus is in the areas of accounting, legal matters, information technology and human resources.

Jack currently spends much of his time guiding the management team across the company to stay committed to a strong balance sheet, ensuring that the business can fund growth projects and remain diversified in areas of transportation, logistics and warehousing. This diversification has allowed Courier Express to stay strong and weather changes in the transportation industry and global economy.

On the human resources side, Jack ensures a desirable climate for Courier Express’s family of employees, providing a positive work environment with exceptional opportunities and benefits.

Jack received a B.S. in accounting from Auburn University, and was a letterman on the tennis team at Washington and Lee University before transferring to Auburn. He is married with two sons. Jack enjoys traveling and spending time with his family as well as playing golf and tennis.

 

Jim Messerly

President

Jim Messerly joined Courier Express in June 1990, when his father, Bill Messerly, acquired the company. With 20 years of transportation experience, Jim has served in numerous leadership positions in the organization and is now president of Courier Express.

Jim is involved in many of the day-to-day activities of Courier Express. He directs the sales and operations team leaders with enthusiasm and passion, embodying the unique culture the Messerlys have created at Courier Express. Jim routinely speaks with each new group of managers to inspire the commitment to excellence in customer service that has made the business a success.

Jim earned a B.S. in business administration from Auburn University. He is married and has four daughters. When not attending or coaching the girls’ various sporting events, you might find him grilling out or following Auburn football. Jim enjoys golfing and is an avid snow and water skier.

 

Jeff Myers

Jeff Myers

Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Jeff joined the Courier Express team in February 1998 and has held five positions during his tenure, including sales, sales management, regional director, and vice president of the Courier Division. He has served as executive vice president of sales and marketing since 2007. As the leader of our sales organization, he has been instrumental in the growth Courier Express has experienced in all markets.

With more than 20 years of experience in the transportation industry, Jeff came to Courier Express from Airborne Express, where he last held the position of district sales manager. Jeff earned a B.A. in economics from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, where he also lettered in baseball and was chosen as an All-Metro conference player and student athlete during his senior year. Married and the father of five children, Jeff is involved in his local church leadership, and also enjoys golf and hunting.

 

Randy Cooper

Randy Cooper

Vice President, Information Technologies

Randy joined Courier Express as director of technology in November 2006 and has been an integral part of CX Technologies’ growth and development. He was promoted to vice president in January 2008.

In addition to his IT background, Randy has more than 30 years of experience in the transportation and logistics industry. He has held various positions with Bozzay Delivery and CD&L, Inc., ranging from mechanic to vice president and co-owner. Randy enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf; he also is an avid car enthusiast.

 

Karl Koller

Karl Koller

Chief Financial Officer

Before joining Courier Express in 2006 as vice president of finance, Karl worked for ten years in banking and finance with companies including WellStar and Regions Bank. As a certified public accountant with five years of public and private accounting experience, he holds memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Karl graduated from Columbus State University with a degree in accounting and received his MBA from Kennesaw State University. Married and the father of three children, Karl is very active in his church and enjoys hunting and other outdoor activities.

 

Gabe Ward

Gabe Ward

Vice President, Courier Operations

Gabe began his career with Courier Express in March 2008 as corporate operations manager. With over 20 years of transportation experience, he has also worked for Fortune 500 companies including UPS and Airborne Express. Gabe received a B.S. in business management from North Carolina State University. He is married and has two children. When not working, Gabe enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and hiking.

 

David England

David England

Vice President, Industrial Engineering

David joined Courier Express in February 2010 as the director of engineering. Having worked with companies including UPS, RR Donnelley and United Transit, where he held positions of executive vice president of operations, vice president of business development, area president and area director. David brings over 30 years of transportation experience to the company. David attended Auburn University and is married with two children. David enjoys fishing and most outdoor sports in his spare time.

 

Becky Paul

Becky Paul

Director of Communications

Becky has been with Courier Express for two decades and was Bill Messerly’s first new hire after the acquisition of the company. She has managed a variety of departments and was promoted to her current position as director of communications in 2008. Becky is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, where she attended the College of Charleston before relocating to the Atlanta area.

Away from the office, Becky enjoys spending time with her family and gardening; she is also an advocate for autism awareness. Becky is the proud mother of a daughter, son and a grandson.

 

John Higgins

John Higgins

Director of Fleet and Facilities

John came to Courier Express in 2001 as an operations manager and was promoted to general manager in 2002. John currently serves as the director of fleet and facilities. Having worked with Overnight Transportation and LeSaint Logistics, he has over 15 years of experience in dedicated logistics, pharmaceutical services and warehousing. John attended Seminole Community College and is married with two children.

When John is not working, you are most likely to find him directing or participating in tournament fishing events.

 

Jimmy Baker

Jimmy Baker

Director of Corporate Sales, Regional Markets

After more than 30 years in the transportation industry, Jimmy joined Courier Express in 2008 as director of sales for the Mid-South Region. A year later, he was given responsibility for the team of sales representatives supporting the company's regional markets. After attending Furman University, Jimmy spent much of his career with Airborne Express, and also managed sales for OfficeMax in the Atlanta branch. Married with two children, Jimmy enjoys playing golf and softball.

 

Meridith Matthews

Meridith Matthews

Director of Human Resources

Meridith is the director of human resources for Courier Express joining the company in July of 2013. She oversees all aspects of human resource management for the company’s more than 500 employees. Meridith brings 20 years of management experience to Courier Express having worked in various human resources and recruiting roles for companies such as Pro Staff, Sun Trust Bank and Comcast Cable.

A native of Atlanta, Meridith graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in sociology. Recognized as a competent communicator, she is a member of SHRM and Toastmasters International where she serves as vice president of education. Meridith is the proud mother of a daughter and son and is an avid tennis player. She is also an active member of her church where she volunteers and serves as a small group Sunday school teacher.

 

Brad Sauls

Brad Sauls

Regional Vice President

Brad joined Courier Express in 1998 as a regional account manager in the corporate office in Atlanta. Soon after, he was promoted to general manager of the Gulf South Region to foster development in the Alabama market.

After leading the company’s expansion into Mississippi and the Florida panhandle, Brad was promoted to vice president in 2007. Today, Brad serves as regional vice president and oversees the Gulf South and Tennessee Valley Regions . Prior to coming to Courier Express, he received a B.A. from Auburn University. Brad enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf; he also is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting and snow skiing.

 

Greg Cross

Greg Cross

Regional Vice President

Greg began his career with Courier Express in 2006 when he joined the company as the general manager for the Carolinas Region. Greg has over 25 years of experience in the transportation industry with companies including Overnite Transportation, Central Transport and Averett Express.

He is a graduate of East Tennessee State University where he received a B.A. in accounting. Greg is married and has four children. He enjoys playing golf and is an active member in his church.

 

Phil Cotter

Regional Vice President

Phil joined Courier Express in September 2007 as a corporate operations manager. Shortly after his arrival at the company, he was promoted to general manager of the U.S. Region. In early 2012, Phil was named vice president and general manager for the Mid-South Region. In 2016, Phil was named Regional Vice President over the Mid-South and Central and South Florida areas. With more than 20 years of combined experience in sales, risk management and operations, Phil was a key contributor in companies like AirNet Systems, RTI Transportation and US Delivery before joining Courier Express.

Phil received a B.A. in English and communications from St. Thomas University. Married with two children, Phil and his wife enjoy the activities of their two children as well as attending sporting events, plays and movies.

 

Richard Whitlock

Richard Whitlock

Vice President - General Manager, CX Logistics

Richard began his career in transportation and logistics in 1977, joining Courier Express in 1993. He has held numerous management positions in sales and operations within the company and was instrumental in the start-up of offices located in Birmingham, Charlotte and Orlando.

Richard currently serves as the vice president and general manager of CX Logistics. This is a dynamic role that encompasses all regions outside of the company’s current southeast footprint. He is a native of Tampa, Florida where he attended Hillsborough Community College before relocating to the Atlanta area in 1985. Richard is married and the father of a daughter and a son. When not working, he enjoys coaching baseball, playing golf and boating with his family.

 

Marco Duffoo

Marco Duffoo

General Manager, CX Freight

Marco’s career began with Courier Express in 2001 as a dispatch supervisor for the Atlanta office. Over the years he held numerous management positions in the courier and freight divisions of the company. In 2013, with the robust growth of the Mid-South freight division, a new region was started and Marco was promoted to general manager of the Georgia Freight Region. In 2015, with additional growth in the Florida freight markets, his area of responsibility grew. Today, he is the general manager of what is now known as CX Freight.

Born in Lima, Peru, Marco moved to the United States in 1974 becoming a proud citizen in 1989. He attended Southern Polytechnic and is happily married with twin boys. In his free time he coaches baseball and enjoys spending time with his extensive family who all live in the Atlanta area.

 

Brian Edmonson

Brian Edmonson

General Manager, Western Carolina Region

Brian Edmonson joined Courier Express in 2013 as an area manager for the Carolinas Region.Today he serves as the general manager of the Western Carolina Region. Brian brings over 15 years of experience in the transportation industry with such companies as Airborne Express and DHL. He began his logistics training in the United States Marine Corps in Logistics Support School. After the Marine Corps, he attended Cape Fear College and went on to study Jazz and music history at St. Louis Community College.

Brian is happily married and the father of two children. Outside of work, he is a professional musician and enjoys spending time in the studio doing session work or playing music with his band.

 

Marc Mahadeo

General Manager, North Georgia Distribution Region

Marc joined Courier Express in the corporate office as a routing and productivity analyst in 2013 and was promoted to area manager in the Mid-South Region in 2014. Today, Marc serves as general manager of Courier Express’s newest division, North Georgia Distribution Region.

Born and raised in Miami, FL, Marc relocated to the Atlanta area to complete his B.S. in industrial engineering at Southern Polytechnic State University. Before joining Courier Express, he worked at Iron Mountain Inc., Home Depot and Assurant Group.

Aside from his commitment to Courier Express, Marc is married and the father of twins; a daughter and son. He enjoys fishing with his family and when time permits, investing in real-estate.

 

Josh Cook

Josh Cook

General Manager, Central and South Florida Region

Josh began his career with Courier Express in July 2010 as a distribution analyst. He has served in numerous management roles which include area manager in the Tampa, Florida market and general manager of the Coastal Carolina Region. Josh has over 15 years of experience in the transportation industry and is currently the general manager of the Central and South Florida Region.

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia where he began his college education at Georgia Institute of Technology, Josh went on to study at FIT in Manhattan where he earned a B.F.A. in advertising communications. Josh is an avid outdoorsmen who enjoys marathon running, camping, rock climbing and hiking, as well as international travel and photography.

 

Michael Miller

Michael Miller

General Manager, South Carolina Region

Michael joined Courier Express in April 2011 and has held various positions in operations, sales and management. He was promoted to his current role as general manager of the South Carolina Region in 2016. Previously, he started and successfully operated a commercial finance brokerage firm for over twenty years.

Michael is a graduate of the University of Houston and holds a B.B.A. in accounting with emphasis in international finance. He is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, and the proud father of a daughter and a son. Away from the office, you will most likely find him on the golf course as he is an avid golfer and plays nearly every weekend.

 

Jason Schultz

Jason Schultz

General Manager, Tennessee Valley Region

Jason began his career with Courier Express in 2005 as a management trainee after graduating from Georgia Southern University with a B.A. in business administration, management. He has held numerous positions in operations management and has worked in the Carolinas, Tennesee Valley and Mid-South Regional offices. Jason was promoted to general manager of the Tennessee Valley Region in 2016.

Jason is happily married and enjoys hiking and visiting national and state parks with his wife and two dogs. After playing college soccer at Georgia Southern, he continues his passion for the sport by participating in multiple adult leagues as well as coaching travel teams at the high school level.

 

Brant Satterwhite

Brant Satterwhite

General Manager, Coastal Carolina Region

Brant Satterwhite, General Manager of the Coastal Carolina Region, joined Courier Express in January of 2016. He started as a strategic project manager and was soon promoted to general manager of the Coastal Carolina Region. Prior to Courier Express, Brant spent ten years with Sears Home Services Division managing logistics, workforce planning and dispatch. He has held management roles in various service industries for over seventeen years.

Brant hails from Durham, North Carolina and graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.A. in communications. Brant is married and has three children who keep him busy with gymnastics and football practices. On his days off, you can find Brant with his family at the beach or by the pool. Having many talents, Brant recently retired from an 80's cover band he sang with for eight years.
