Bill Messerly

William (Bill) Messerly

Chairman

Bill Messerly began his professional career by working in the public business sector for several years before his natural entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a homebuilder in 1976. After more than a decade of building homes in the greater Atlanta area, Bill had a vision of acquiring a small company to grow and develop, and he purchased Courier Express in July 1990.

Bill’s son Jim also joined the company in 1990, followed by Jack in 1992. Under Bill’s leadership, the team took the company from the local to the regional level. As Courier Express rapidly expanded, Bill mentored his sons to become the next generation of leadership, bringing their own vision and fresh ideas to the company.

Today, Bill serves as chairman of Courier Express. While he has stepped away from day-to-day operations, he still has a very active role in the company’s major interests.

Bill earned a B.A. in history from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He is married and has six grandchildren. When he’s not traveling or spending time with his family, you are likely to find him reading, surf fishing or following population trends as a hobby.

 

Jack Messerly

Jack Messerly

CEO

Jack Messerly serves as chief executive officer of Courier Express. He joined the company in 1992 after working for several years as a certified public accountant. His primary focus is in the areas of accounting, legal matters, information technology and human resources.

Jack currently spends much of his time guiding the management team across the company to stay committed to a strong balance sheet, ensuring that the business can fund growth projects and remain diversified in areas of transportation, logistics and warehousing. This diversification has allowed Courier Express to stay strong and weather changes in the transportation industry and global economy.

On the human resources side, Jack ensures a desirable climate for Courier Express’s family of employees, providing a positive work environment with exceptional opportunities and benefits.

Jack received a B.S. in accounting from Auburn University, and was a letterman on the tennis team at Washington and Lee University before transferring to Auburn. He is married with two sons. Jack enjoys traveling and spending time with his family as well as playing golf and tennis.

 

Jim Messerly

President

Jim Messerly joined Courier Express in June 1990, when his father, Bill Messerly, acquired the company. With 20 years of transportation experience, Jim has served in numerous leadership positions in the organization and is now president of Courier Express.

Jim is involved in many of the day-to-day activities of Courier Express. He directs the sales and operations team leaders with enthusiasm and passion, embodying the unique culture the Messerlys have created at Courier Express. Jim routinely speaks with each new group of managers to inspire the commitment to excellence in customer service that has made the business a success.

Jim earned a B.S. in business administration from Auburn University. He is married and has four daughters. When not attending or coaching the girls’ various sporting events, you might find him grilling out or following Auburn football. Jim enjoys golfing and is an avid snow and water skier.

 

Jeff Myers

Jeff Myers

Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Jeff joined the Courier Express team in February 1998 and has held five positions during his twelve-year tenure, including sales, sales management, regional director, and vice president of the Courier Division. He has served as executive vice president of sales and marketing since 2007. As the leader of our sales organization, he has been instrumental in the growth Courier Express has experienced in all markets.

With more than 16 years of experience in the transportation industry, Jeff came to Courier Express from Airborne Express, where he last held the position of district sales manager. Jeff earned a B.A. in economics from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, where he also lettered in baseball and was chosen as an All-Metro conference player and student athlete during his senior year. Married and the father of three children, Jeff is involved in his local church leadership, and also enjoys golf and hunting.

 

Corry Dickerson

Corry Dickerson

Executive Vice President, Operations

Corry joined Courier Express in 2001 as director of the Freight Services Division and was quickly promoted to vice president. With more than 25 years of transportation experience in the areas of LTL, dedicated logistics and freight-truck leasing, Corry has been a significant contributor to the operational growth of Courier Express, particularly in the freight division. Corry was promoted to his current position of executive vice president of operations in 2007. Corry holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Tennessee. He is active in his church and community, and is married with a son and a daughter.

 

Randy Cooper

Randy Cooper

Vice President, Information Technologies

Randy joined Courier Express as director of technology in November 2006 and has been an integral part of CX Technologies’ growth and development. He was promoted to vice president in January 2008.

In addition to his IT background, Randy has more than 30 years of experience in the transportation and logistics industry. He has held various positions with Bozzay Delivery and CD&L, Inc., ranging from mechanic to vice president and co-owner. Randy enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf; he also is an avid car enthusiast.

 

Karl Koller

Karl Koller

Chief Financial Officer

Before joining Courier Express in 2006 as vice president of finance, Karl worked for ten years in banking and finance with companies including WellStar and Regions Bank. As a certified public accountant with five years of public and private accounting experience, he holds memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Karl graduated from Columbus State University with a degree in accounting and received his MBA from Kennesaw State University. Married and the father of two children, Karl is very active in his church and enjoys hunting and other outdoor activities.

 

Becky Paul

Becky Paul

Director of Communications

Becky has been with Courier Express for two decades and was Bill Messerly’s first new hire after the acquisition of the company. She has managed a variety of departments and was promoted to her current position as director of communications in 2008. Becky is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, where she attended the College of Charleston before relocating to the Atlanta area.

Away from the office, Becky enjoys spending time with her family and gardening; she also is an advocate for autism awareness. Becky is the proud mother of a daughter and a son.

 

Gabe Ward

Gabe Ward

Director of Region Development

Gabe began his career with Courier Express in March 2008 as corporate operations manager. With 15 years of transportation experience, he has also worked for Fortune 500 companies including UPS and Airborne Express. Gabe received a B.S. in business management from North Carolina State University. He is married and has two children. When not working, Gabe enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and hiking.

 

Jimmy Baker

Jimmy Baker

Director of Corporate Sales, Regional Markets

After more than 30 years in the transportation industry, Jimmy joined Courier Express in 2008 as director of sales for the Mid-South Region. A year later, he was given responsibility for the team of sales representatives supporting the company's regional markets. After attending Furman University, Jimmy spent much of his career with Airborne Express, and also managed sales for OfficeMax in the Atlanta branch. Married with two children in college, Jimmy enjoys playing golf and softball.

 

Roger D. Parker

Roger D. Parker

Human Resources Manager

Roger began his career with Courier Express in 1990. Promoted to human resources manager in 1994, he ensures company compliance with all federal, state and local statutes that govern businesses. Roger has extensive experience in all aspects of human resources and has held numerous leadership positions in corporate environments.

Prior to joining Courier Express, Roger was vice president of the operations division at First Interstate Bank of California in Los Angeles. He is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Actively involved in community initiatives, he serves as the executive director of Concerns of Police Survivors, a non-profit organization, for the state of Georgia. Roger is married and has two children and three grandchildren.

 

Tony Degenova

Tony DeGenova

Safety and Compliance Manager

Tony joined Courier Express in 1998 and held several management positions in the Mid-South Region before becoming the corporate safety and compliance manager for Courier Express. Prior to Courier Express, Tony spent 23 years in the insurance industry with Life of Georgia, serving in several roles including regional director.

In addition to his safety and compliance responsibilities throughout the company, Tony is also in charge of insurance and related claims administration. Tony participates in continuing educations programs through the North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI) and is an active participant in the Georgia Motor Trucking Association. He is OSHA certified in General Industry Safety and Health as well as trained and certified in CPR, first aid and bloodborne pathogens. He is working closely with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to implement the new CSA 2010 Safety Rating and Compliance System.

Tony is married and has two children and three grandchildren. He is an active member in his church.

 

David ReDavid

David ReDavid

Vice President-General Manager, Mid-South Region

David joined Courier Express in 2007, bringing 20 years of transportation experience with companies such as Airborne Express, AirNet and ASIG. David earned a B.S. in both communications and political science from Florida State University. He plays the drums and is a member of the ALTA tennis league. With his wife and two children, David enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, skiing and snowboarding.

 

Phil Cotter

Phil Cotter

Vice President-General Manager, U.S. Region

Phil joined Courier Express in September 2007 as a corporate operations manager. Shortly after his arrival at the company, he was promoted to general manager of U.S. Region. Phil came to Courier Express with more than 15 years of combined experience in sales, operations and risk management. He was a key contributor in companies like AirNet Systems, RTI Transportation and US Delivery. Phil received a B.A. in English and communications from St. Thomas University. Married with two children, Phil enjoys spending time with his family and is an active member in his church, where his wife is pastor.

 

Brad Sauls

Brad Sauls

Vice President-General Manager, Gulf South Region

Brad joined Courier Express in 1998 as a regional account manager in the corporate office in Atlanta. Soon after, he was promoted to general manager of the Gulf South Region to foster development in the Alabama market.

After leading the company’s expansion into Mississippi and the Florida panhandle, Brad was promoted to vice president in 2007. Prior to coming to Courier Express, he received a B.A. from Auburn University. Brad enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys hunting and snow skiing.

 

Greg Cross

Greg Cross

General Manager, Carolinas Region

Greg began his career with Courier Express in 2006 when he joined the company as the general manager for the Carolinas region. Greg has over 25 years of experience in the transportation industry with companies including Overnite Transportation, Central Transport and Averett Express. He is a graduate of East Tennessee State University where he received a B.A. in accounting. Greg is married and has four children. He enjoys playing golf and is an active member in his church.

 

John Higgins

John Higgins

General Manager, Central and South Florida Regions

John came to Courier Express in 2001 as an operations manager and was promoted to general manager in 2002. Having worked with Overnight Transportation and LeSaint Logistics, he has over 15 years of experience in dedicated logistics, pharmaceutical services and warehousing. John attended Seminole Community College and is married with two children.
When John is not working, you are most likely to find him directing or participating in tournament fishing events.

 

Jeff McAlpin

Jeff McAlpin

General Manager, Tennessee Valley Region

In 2003, Jeff joined the Courier Express team as an account manager in our Gulf South Region. Over the years, Jeff’s hard work and accomplishments earned him the opportunity to become general manager of the Tennessee Valley Region. Before attending the University of Alabama, Jeff served in the United States Navy. Prior to Courier Express, he held positions at UPS and at Employers Drug Program Management. Jeff is married and has two children.
